If you're hoping for an affirming and/or healthy look into any of those categories, this book may not be for you. If, however, you enjoy viewing even the most painful of exploits through a chuckle-filtered lens, then these pages were written for you.

Blood Sweat and Shame Confessions of an Ultra Marathon Fat Guy eBook Justin Slater

It's a solid quick read but honestly it's a bit much on the self loathing part. I found myself skipping through much of the pages and laughing at most of it. The sheer brutal honesty is amusing but it does take its toll...we get it! But I did read this book after reading Corey Reese 's Nowhere Near First. So maybe I'm being a bit judgemental in that regard. Anyway, solid read and very amusing.

Blood Sweat and Shame Confessions of an Ultra Marathon Fat Guy eBook Justin Slater Reviews

Great quick read. As a fellow formerly chubby ultra runner I related to most every part. If you wonder what many of us are doing out there, this is it.
This guy holds back nothing in making a journey into running insanity and weight loss a hilarious, laugh out loud experience.
Cringe-inducing is correct. Hilarious and definitely relatable for anyone who has spent any amount of time running — even if you would never be caught dead running an ultra marathon!
This book was fun, thoughtful, and uplifting. Not RUDY uplifting, but still. The author does a great job of sharing the feelings that most of us have facing a daunting task. This book was very relatable and it made me laugh out loud several times.
Warning May lead to inappropriate displays of public laughter.

Seriously, this book is witty, insightful, and very funny. I laughed out loud at multiple inappropriate times, including the doctor's office and trying to put kids to sleep…whoops! Still well worth the read. Great concluding thoughts too--and very easy to connect to, even though I'm not a runner. I applaud J. Slater's courage, humor, and openness in writing this book...and I look forward to reading his next one!
This book is amazingly smart and insightful, somehow getting you to snort with laughter throughout. Despite being about the specific sport of running, it touches upon so many basic human experiences that it's relevant to all. Self-deprecatory humor a la Brian Regan. Do not miss this!!!!!!!
Sometimes cringe inducing (e.g. the nipple story), often insightful, and consistently hilarious.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly, but annoyed everyone around me by laughing and gasping out loud... constantly. Overall, though, besides just being funny, it's an inspiring and insightful look into obsession, self-worth, and relationships.
